Project leader

Ingvild Lilleheie, PhD, Sunnaas Hospital

Abstract

The primary objectives of Focused Intensive Repetitive Step Training (FIRST) are to: 1) identify barriers, facilitators and strategies to successfully implement measures and high-intensity gait training in clinical practice; 2) successfully implement standardized measures; and 3) successfully implement high-intensity gait training and evaluate its impact on patient outcomes.  The project includes 3 phases, which are described as usual care, high-intensity gait training, and sustainability and follow-up.   We are currently collaborating with 9 Norwegian rehabilitation facilities in this project, which are described below.
All the included rehabilitation facilities are now in the implemntation phase of high-intensity gait training. Clinicians at these hospitals have been trained in high-intensity gait training and are currently implementing it in clinical practice.
